Growing in Service
Olive Branch Church was founded on September 14, 2001 — born from a vision to plant a living, Spirit-filled congregation in Pokhara. What began as a small gathering of 28 families meeting in a local community hall has grown into a church of over 200 members on Jyoti Marga, Pokhara 33700.
From our founding in 2001, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Aakarshan Bhattachan and Pastor Deepraj Shrestha, our congregation answered a call to active ministry by launching outreach programmes that continue to this day. That first step shaped a lasting commitment to love our neighbours as ourselves.
As a Baptist church, we are guided by Scripture, shaped by grace, and propelled by the Great Commission. We believe that faith without works is empty, and that every act of service is an act of worship.
Our Pastors
Rev. Aakarshan Bhattachan
Senior Pastor
Rev. Aakarshan Bhattachan founded Olive Branch Church on September 14, 2001 — beginning with 28 families in a community hall and a conviction that a church exists to serve its neighbourhood, not just its members. Over 25 years he has led the congregation through floods, through growth, and through the quiet daily work of feeding, mentoring, and educating the people of Pokhara-9. His theology is plain: faith that stays inside the building on Sunday is not finished.
Pastor Deepraj Shrestha
Associate Pastor
Pastor Deepraj Shrestha joined Olive Branch Church in 2007 as a youth volunteer, drawn by a simple question he heard in a sermon: what does it mean to serve someone you don't know? He now leads the youth ministry, oversees the annual mission trips, and chairs the Olive Branch Seva Scholarship selection panel. He believes the most important thing the church does is show young people that their community needs them — and then give them the tools to answer that need.

Our Core Beliefs
The Authority of Scripture
We hold the Bible as the inspired, infallible Word of God — the final authority for faith and practice. It is the text that tells us to feed the hungry, visit the prisoner, and care for the widow. We take all of it seriously.
Salvation by Grace
We believe salvation is a free gift from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone — not by works. This is why our scholarships ask for service hours rather than wealth, and why our food pantry is open to everyone regardless of faith background.
The Holy Trinity
We affirm one God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The Priesthood of Believers
Every believer has direct access to God and is called to minister to others in love and truth. The volunteer packing food parcels on a Saturday morning is doing the same work as the pastor behind the pulpit.
The Great Commission
We are called to make disciples of all nations — sharing the Gospel through word and deed. This is why we have sent mission teams to India, run anti-bullying campaigns in local schools, and held interfaith dialogues with 14 faith communities in Pokhara.
The Local Church
The church is the body of Christ — a community of believers committed to worship, fellowship, and service. For us that means the Sunday service is inseparable from the Saturday food pantry, the scholarship announcement, and the disaster relief effort. They are all one calling.

First Church Service & Dedication
Founding service held at the Pokhara Community Hall. 28 founding families gathered to dedicate Olive Branch Church to the Lord. Rev. Aakarshan Bhattachan preached on James 2:17 — "faith without works is dead" — a text that would quietly shape every programme the church ever ran.
Winter Clothing & Blanket Drive
First community outreach effort — just ten weeks after founding. Clothing and blankets worth NPR 3,19,900 donated to 47 local families ahead of winter. The congregation collected more than they expected, which taught them something about what they were capable of.
New Year Charity Food Collection
Groceries and dry goods collected for low-income households. NPR 4,72,200 raised; 60 families served. Total 2001 giving: NPR 7,92,100.
New Year Fellowship Breakfast
Congregation gathers to worship and plan the year's outreach goals. 85 members attended.
Valentine's Charity Bake Sale
Baked goods sold to support local orphanage. NPR 73,100 raised.
Easter Community Lunch
Festive Easter meal served to 85 families — nearly three times the number of founding families, a sign that word was spreading beyond the congregation. Volunteers from three local schools participated.
Summer Youth Bible Camp Opens
First annual youth camp held over two weeks. 37 teenagers participated in Bible study, prayer, and team-building activities.
School Supply Donation Drive
Notebooks, pens, and school kits donated to 3 local schools serving underprivileged children.
Thanksgiving Charity Dinner
Community meal served to 70 families. Surplus food donated to the Shanti Griha Shelter.
Annual Church Planning Retreat
Leadership retreat to set vision and ministry goals for the year. 21 leaders participated.
Community Health Awareness Session
Free health talk and blood pressure screenings. 93 residents attended at the church hall.

Elderly Care Day at Senior Centre
Volunteers visited Pokhara Senior Care Centre. Games, prayer, and meals shared with 45 residents. Several volunteers returned independently the following week — unorganised, unannounced. Pastor Aakarshan later said that was the moment he knew the congregation had genuinely become a serving community, not just a volunteering one.

Relocation to Jyoti Marga
Olive Branch Church officially relocates to its new premises on Jyoti Marga, Pokhara 33700. The move marks a new chapter for the congregation — a larger, more accessible space to continue the community programmes that have defined the church since 2001.
